Ramadan has now started – across the globe Muslim people have begun a month of fasting during daylight hours. This presents many challenges for food distribution to Muslim refugees stranded in Greece and it is very important that the humanitarian aid response is able to adapt.
In order to accommodate this cultural need, extra food is distributed in the evening at the port of Piraeus so that people can eat during the night. Help Refugees is delighted to be able to support this effort by funding the distribution of 1,500 fresh wraps every day.
On the menu you can find falafel, baba ganoush, fava bean dip and even tatziki, always served with fresh salad.
All the food is prepared at the amazing Rakadiko restaurant in Piraeus who have so kindly donated their commercial kitchen space to Khora.
Every day, refugees volunteer their time to prepare the food and make sure the menu is culturally appropriate. We would love to be able to support more initiatives like this across Greece as access to fresh nutritious food is a basic right that is not being fulfilled despite the efforts of the government.

We would not be able to do our work without your support and kindness. Many of the refugees we help are fleeing the conflict zones of Iraq, Syria and Afghanistan. Others are trying to escape political oppression in countries like Eritrea. All are human beings like us. As well as providing immediate physical assistance, we want to help refugees maintain their dignity.
