Video appeal from Hettie in the Calais warehouse – can you support our build project?

The build project run by l’Auberge des Migrants and Help Refugees provides refugees with the materials to build their own shelters, as well as pre-made shelters for the more vulnerable members of the camp. The Jungle refugee camp is situated on an old industrial waste site and hazardous materials, such as asbestos, remain in the mud that tents have been pitched on.

The build project is in desperate need of donations to fund this ongoing vital work.

You can donate here:

We supplied materials and along with the residents, built 180 shelters in October, 400 in November and 340 in December. This massive figure represents around 3,680 people in shelters, raised off the earth, away from the cold, wet ground, insulated against the icy winds.

We also urgently need tents, sleeping bags, blankets and torches, especially wind up or solar powered torches. You can buy these through our#WarmWishes campaign and they will be delivered straight to the camp.

Volunteer Hettie explains how the L’Auberge des Migrants/Help Refugees warehouse is run and how the building project works.

We would not be able to do our work without your support and kindness. Many of the refugees we help are fleeing the conflict zones of Iraq, Syria and Afghanistan. Others are trying to escape political oppression in countries like Eritrea. All are human beings like us. As well as providing immediate physical assistance, we want to help refugees maintain their dignity.
