Miss Magpie Fashion Spy is spending some time illustrating the lives of the people in the refugee camps in Calais and Dunkirk. In this post of her images from Thursday she illustrates the hard work of the volunteers in the kitchen and the food sorting area.

Thursday 14th January, the Jungle, Calais
I drew the food packing team in the L’Auberge des Migrants / Help Refugees warehouse this morning, they were fast and focused and busy! This afternoon there just weren’t enough pairs of hands as people were needed in camp – so I helped out for a few hours. It was worthwhile work, filling bags with enough food for one person, lentils / onions / spices / fish / tomatoes / teabags / pulses / salt / sugar / garlic.
Help Refugees need donations for food. Either turn up in Calais with Euros, or with food, or donate money. Such a large amount of people that need feeding daily….the volume of food that the kitchen gets through is incredible. They just need more more more more more more more, every day.
We would not be able to do our work without your support and kindness. Many of the refugees we help are fleeing the conflict zones of Iraq, Syria and Afghanistan. Others are trying to escape political oppression in countries like Eritrea. All are human beings like us. As well as providing immediate physical assistance, we want to help refugees maintain their dignity.
