Iraqi women are creating their own sewing and crafts to rebuild their livelihoods and independence

Iraqi women who have been traumatised at the hand of ISIS are creating their own sewing and crafts to rebuild their livelihoods and independence.

Women and girls living in camps in the Kurdistan region of Northern Iraq have been through the unimaginable, years of trauma and conflict at the hand of ISIS have taken away their independence and hope for the future but we have partnered with the incredible Lotus Flower on their Sewing Sisters project.

Sewing Sisters will be providing training in sewing and craft-making for 100 women in one year. The focus being women rebuilding their lives and livelihoods.

The word empowerment is used quite often today, but it couldn’t be more appropriate here. We believe women have the strength and capability to overcome and projects like this are giving them the tools they need.
