When people think of the Jungle refugee camp in Calais the images that spring to mind are often of young men, as this is what the media has frequently reported. What many people don’t realise is that there are women, child and families living in the desperate conditions of the camp.
We are doing our best to keep as many warm, dry and fed as possible. An important outreach effort is the women’s centre, which provides a safe space for the many hundreds of women and children living in the camp.
Help Refugees supports the incredible work of Liz Clegg and her team of volunteers who run the centre. They put on daily activities, providing essential care, essential supplies and essential services necessary to support women, children and babies.
The centre looks after pregnant women, work with the housing team and are the central point for distribution of all goods to women and children in the camp.
We need your support to keep this work going. Please donate now to the Women’s Centre Fund – www.mydonate.bt.com/fundraisers/junglewomenscentre
We would not be able to do our work without your support and kindness. Many of the refugees we help are fleeing the conflict zones of Iraq, Syria and Afghanistan. Others are trying to escape political oppression in countries like Eritrea. All are human beings like us. As well as providing immediate physical assistance, we want to help refugees maintain their dignity.
