Over just two weeks in December you came together for our Choose Love campaign in unprecedented ways putting on gigs and auctions, holding bake sales, running races and even shaving your heads. We were blown away by your passion, dedication and ingenuity. Together we were able to raise close to £1 million.
We were delighted that so many of you attended the Choose Love events we put on including a gig with Jamie Cullum and friends at the Jazz Cafe, a ‘Money Can’t Buy Auction’ hosted by Christie’s at the Whitechapel Gallery, and two ‘Rave for Refugees’ at the Electric Brixton.
The funds raised with your help have already started to have a tangible impact in our support of projects on the ground in 22 military-run refugee camps in Greece as well as camps and settlements across Europe, Syria, Lebanon and Turkey.
We will continue to focus our efforts on delivering emergency aid as the temperatures continue to drop sub zero across Europe, with refugees being forced to live in tents and several already losing their lives.
Moving forward we hope to continue expand our projects, helping refugees rebuild their lives through rehousing, skills learning and job creation, something we have been proud to have kicked off thanks to your support.
Over the Christmas period we also launched an emergency Aleppo appeal and raised nearly $1 million which was sent went immediately and directly to Syria for life saving medical supplies.
We were also lucky enough to be chosen as The Guardian Christmas Charity partner. Over 17,000 Guardian readers raised £1.75 million in support of Help Refugees and two other charities working with child refugees. It was the second biggest charity fundraiser in the papers’ history.
We are so grateful for your continued support and we will continue to work tirelessly to make every penny count. Please keep following our posts on social media to see how all the funds you have helped raise are being spent.
